We are excited to unveil our new Education Project, which began in October 2023. This initiative provides online English education to orphans in Laos, enhancing their employment prospects after graduation. Our program, which started in Luang Prabang, now includes over 60 high school and college students. The project is supported by a global network of 25 trained and vetted volunteers who teach English. Additionally, we offer scholarships to orphans pursuing higher education, with the first cohort consisting of seven students who receive $50 per month to assist with tuition and living expenses. Sponsorship Opportunities for Education Project
In our 20th anniversary, LHF is expanding our work towards education and scholarship. We launched an online English learning program with several orphanage schools (SOS Herman Gmeiner School of Luang Prabang, the Orphanage School of Luang Prabang, and other SOS branches from other provinces in Laos, including Xieng Khouang and Pakse). We have partnered with these institutions since August of 2023. As part of this program, we are also providing students with scholarships to help with their tuition and living expenses as they pursue education at the college level or at a trade school. We hope that the scholarship and the English classes will provide these students with a better opportunity in finding work and a career after graduation.
Each student in the program will receive a monthly scholarship of $50 for increments of twelve months in a year; recipients are selected once yearly. Priority will be given to current recipients who are eligible.
As part of this program, students are eligible for a scholarship if they are an orphan, pursue higher education (college or technical school) and are taking our English classes through LHF at least four times per month.
Classes are taught by LHF volunteers across the US. Each teacher is trained and completes an onboarding process prior to teaching. LHF matches students to volunteers based on the skill level of both the student and volunteer. LHF sets up all of the classes and monitors student growth and progress through teacher logs after each lesson.
LHF would like to invite you to sponsor a student or a group of students. All donations are tax deductible. Please see the full sponsorship packet.
We are seeking sponsorships in the following areas:
- 1 student for 1 month ($50)
- 1 student for 6 months ($300)
- 1 student for 1 year ($600)
- 1 student for 2 years (1200)
