LHF began our activities for the general public in 2005 even though we we born in September of 2004.
Offical Launch of LHF (June 16, 2005)
LHF was official launched to the public on June 16, 2005, at the Strathmore Mansion in Bethesda, MD. It was a small gathering of founders, supporters, and advisers of LHF. Niphasone Souphom, President of LHF, gave a speech about the mission and vision of LHF followed by our affiliate art partner, Tiao Somsanith Nithakhong and the master of ceremony, Bounchanh Mouangkham. The event also featured embroidery and art work by Tiao Somanith Nithakhong.
First Annual Benefit Dinner: Loi Katong (September 10, 2005)
LHF hosted our first annual benefit dinner on September 10, 2005 in Arlington, VA. The theme was Loi Katong. We decorated and taught guests about the tradition of Loi Katong. The dinner featured home made Lao food prepared by volunteers and board members. Students from the Lao Woman Association performed traditional Lao dancing. The evening calminated with traditional Lum wong with the guests.
Exhibition of Prince Somsanith Nithakong’s Artwork (September 24, 2005)
Prince Somsanith hosted a reception to this exhibit of embroidery and paintings on Saturday, September 24, 2005, at Sharon Fine Gallery. He donated 50% of all proceeds to the Lao Heritage Foundation to fund our book project. The project includes printing a book of the entire temple collection of 64 temples in Luang Prabang with their history in English, Lao, and French. LHF and Prince Somsanith also hosted 1 st and 2 nd grade students from the local elementary school. The students were given a tour of the gallery complete with a question-and-answer session and an art contest for the children.
